My question concerns the proper naming of a custom link style that is
applied to some but not all of the links on the page. In the head of my
document I have created a set of custom styles named ".navlinks",
".navlinks:visited", and ".navlinks:hover". The resulting style, "navlinks",
seems to work correctly  in IE6 when used as a class specifier for links on
that page. I have, however, seen other examples and tutorials on the web
that suggest that I should name the styles "a.navlinks",
"a.navlinks:visited", and "a.navlinks:hover". This, too, seems to work in
IE6.

So, which is correct for my situation? I realize that I could test with a
dozen different browser/version combinations and figure it out empirically,
but I'd be much happier with a "right answer."

Cheers, -RM
